We are having a baby!

We’re having a baby!

Yep, we are pretty excited. This baby is coming to us the old fashioned way – and I am feeling it daily. Currently I am 17 weeks along, which is exciting because I am almost half way through this nine month experience (due date is end of October). This pregnancy was a “surprise” for us (and our families too I think) – we hadn’t planned on having a child biologically for a few more years, if ever. We have never been told that we couldn’t have children, but neither of us had a strong desire to have a biological child. I did think it would be great to have a miniature Kyle running around, but neither of us had strong feelings either way. It doesn’t really matter to us how the baby comes to us or the color of our baby’s skin, because once baby is here – they are ours – just like Kinsey!

This pregnancy has been a learning experience. I have thrown up quite a bit and felt pretty miserable. I’ll be honest – I never want to go through this again…seriously. My mom says that she said the same thing for each pregnancy and she had eight kids – go figure. I think I actually thought I would smile as I threw up because I was having a baby … this is not the case. I will spare you the details, even though I have some very interesting throwing-up stories.

The most amazing thing that I have learned in these 17 weeks isn’t about me, but about other women. Some people feel as though women who place their baby for adoption are selfish. This isn’t the case – if they were selfish they would have aborted their baby, because their comfort was more important than their own child’s life. When women choose adoption for their babies they decide that their child’s life is worth every second of the morning (all day) sickness, the doctor examinations, the delivery and the saying “goodbye” to their beautiful child. They choose life for their child because they see the bigger picture. It’s a selfless love. This pregnancy has taught me that. I can’t imagine going through it all knowing that at the end I would say goodbye because it is what was best for my child. It makes me all the more thankful to my daughter’s biological mother who at 14 years old went through nine miserable months (she was sick the whole time) just so her baby could have life. We can’t possibly be thankful enough.
